" EOS was the rosy-fingered goddess of the dawn. She and her siblings Helios (the Sun) and Selene (the Moon) were numbered amongst the second-generation Titan gods. Eos rose up into the sky from the river Okeanos at the start of each day, and with her rays of light dispersed the mists of night. She was sometimes depicted riding in a golden chariot drawn by winged horses, at other times she was shown borne aloft by her own pair of wings. Eos had an unquenchable desire for handsome young men, some say as the result of a curse laid upon her by the goddess Aphrodite..."

I am a realist at heart, and enjoy interpreting realistic motifs in color and mood. My style includes traditional methods applied in a casual-realist manner usually a relatively thin underpainting, and using transparent glazes to enrich colors and shadows. Recently I have also been doing some new prints and paintings as mixed-media on paper and as direct original digital images. All images are copyright. Aphrodite, Bathing - an original digital image, Tasha, bathing, near on the Weeki Wachee River, Gulf Coast, Florida.  This is an original multimedia acrylic/oil art wjork, based on an original acrylic sketch, Tasha, standing. Aphrodite was associated with Cupid; the cupids here come from a couple of classical paintings, for which I've misplaced my notes. (I don't feel like looking to find them again.) "Because of her beauty, other gods feared that their rivalry over her would interrupt the peace among them and lead to war, so Zeus married her to Hephaestus, who, because of his ugliness and deformity, was not seen as a threat. Aphrodite had many lovers—both gods, such as Ares, and men, such as Anchises." (from Wikipedia...) ...The tree branch in the "Baths of Aphrodite" photo makes it hard to use for an art piece, so I preferred to use Weeki Wachee River..  I also do not try to reproduce classical styles, preferring my more "traditional-modern" forms, and using contemporary models and poses.

A world-famous Aphrodite is the "Venus de Milo", in the Louvre, Paris. "This graceful statue of a goddess has intrigued and fascinated since its discovery on the island of Melos in 1820. Is it Aphrodite, who was often portrayed half-naked, or the sea goddess Amphitrite, who was venerated on Milo? ... Whether the statue is Greek or Roman draws various opinions.  One summing-up, also from the Louvre site above, is "... The Venus de Milo certainly revives the classical tradition, but would appear to be a classicizing re-creation dating from the late 2nd century BC. The goddess's air of aloofness, the harmony of her face and her impassivity are stamped with the aesthetics of the 5th century BC; the hairstyle and delicate modeling of the flesh evoke the works of 4th-century sculptor Praxiteles. However, the sculpture reflects innovations that appeared during the Hellenistic period, between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC. The spiral composition, the positioning of the figure in three-dimensional space, and the small-breasted, elongated body are characteristic of this period..." Baths of Aphrodite near Latchi, Cyprus "Mythology" sometimes claims this as the spring within which Aphrodilte sometimes bathes...
